Two Souls Italy/Germany Round Tripania andata e ritorno

This domestic project embodies two souls, weaving together two subtle narrative threads that, when intertwined, bring forth mutual depth and character. Everything here plays on the theme of duality—contrasts that create added value and enrich the interior design with unexpected connections. On one side is Italy, specifically Rome—more precisely, Trastevere. Its history, narrow streets, rooftops with wooden beams, and walk-ups without elevators. On the other side is Germany, Stuttgart—the home of the clients—clean, essential, and free of frills. Two souls meet, embodying nearly two distinct attitudes: one functionalist, the other more whimsical.

This theme is initially expressed through the collaborative design approach of Bevilacqua Architects, with Marta and Marco working together, blending their roles as both architects and designers. Marco’s creation, the Tacito wall lamp, exemplifies this interplay. The synergy extends between them, the clients, and the craftspeople involved. On one side was a pre-existing space that conveyed a certain character, despite its original layout of small rooms and drop ceilings. On the other, there were new spatial, aesthetic, and functional requirements.

A bit of imagination was necessary: it was selected by the clients upon the architects’ recommendation, who, involved from the start in the purchase phase, recognized its potential. Substantial demolitions not only created a continuous, open space with direct connections between the two facades but also uncovered characteristics that couldn’t be ignored, such as the original structure with its double-height ceiling and exposed beams.
